Where are ADUs allowed:
All single-family residential zones as long as the lot conforms to the minimum lot size requirement of the specific residential zone that it is in.
Types of ADUs:
Both detached and attached ADUs are allowed in all single-family zones.
Parking:
Westport requires one parking space per Accessory Apartment. In Westport, single-family homes require a minimum of two parking spaces. If you are planning to add an ADU to your property, you should be able to accommodate three parking spaces within the bounds of your property.
Size:
The maximum allowable floor area is determined by the size of your primary dwelling and the size of your property.
The floor area of your new Accessory Apartment shall not exceed 1,500 square feet in floor area or 25% of your primary home’s square footage, whichever is less.
Rental Use:
While long-term rentals are permitted, short-term rentals are not allowed.
Other Requirements:
Property owner must reside in either the principal dwelling unit or the ADU.
Accessory Apartments can't have an exterior door on the front of the building.
